As the cycle of wet weather continues in Brisbane it begins the season of termite foraging and breeding.
Now termites have three different types in the colony; the breeders, the foragers, and the soldiers. Each of them have their own job to do to ensure the safety and longevity of the colony. The breeders are tasked with finding new areas for a nest and starting the colony. So they grow wings and fly out to find a new home when the wet weather begins. The abundance of rain allows them to find their life source anywhere, so off they fly to look for their next food source.
This mass flight takes place just after a summer storm and unfortunately for us this means all summer (and Autumn). This, combined with the overcast weather, creates the perfect storm (no pun intended) of conditions for a booming termite season.
Fast forward 4-5 months, and Brisbane will become a giant nesting ground for termites. Not only will this put your homes in danger, but business and any buildings with edible wood (spoiler alert this includes furniture). The best way to make sure your home does not become the next nest site for termites is to prevent moisture inside your home.
This means leaking showers, aircons, and pool filters need to be monitored and fixed as soon as possible to stop the breeding termites from being drawn to your home. These conditions are all checked by our technicians when we do our termite inspections.
